Postdoctural Opportunity: Responses of farmed shellfish to mutiple stressors

Rutgers University

The Haskin Shellifsh Research Lab at Rutgers University is seeking a postdoctoral research associate to join a dynamic research team on a project that will involve both field-based and laboratory-based experiments.The postdoc will be responsible for coordinating experiments which will include farm-scale grow-out experiments in the ocean, lab-scale multi-stressor (temperature and ocean acidification) experiments in the hatchery, meetings with industry and management collaborators, and writing reports and manuscripts about results. Opportunities for grant writing, undergraduate student mentoring, and presentations at science conferences will be encouraged. Funding is in place for 18 monthsand will include travel to meet with project collaborators and advisors from management and fishing communities.

The NOAA Ocean Acidification Program has a vacancy for a Physical Scientist ZP 1301-3/4 (Direct Hire) with a negotiable location.

 As a Physical Scientist, you will perform the following duties:

  • Develop and coordinate the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) ocean acidification science outreach and education. Lead a team charged with coordinating across NOAA and the broader science communication community in the development and dissemination of ocean acidification messages and materials derived from program-sponsored research. Lead team development of new approaches for dissemination of research findings.
  • Monitor and direct the organization’s ocean acidification education activities. Oversee the development of educational materials. Manage major ocean acidification website enhancements. Coordinate execution of ocean acidification-related public webinars. Oversee program communication and educational investments and track program milestones and performance.
  • Coordinate presentation of program-sponsored research findings to lay, managerial and expert audiences within and beyond NOAA using various software packages and social media platforms. Produce original written materials on ocean acidification summarizing program-sponsored research findings for agency, national, and international assessments.

The duties above are described at the full performance level of ZP-4; the ZP-3 is developmental leading to such performance.
