From improved ocean acidification forecasts to new insights into how marine life and people respond to our changing ocean, NOAA’s Ocean Acidification Program highlights advances in Fiscal Year 2025 (FY25) online. These efforts advance research and expand partnerships to better understand and respond to changing ocean chemistry. In turn, OAP’s science, monitoring, and outreach into practical tools that support fisheries, ecosystems, and communities across our nation. One way to view FY25 highlights is a new interactive “OAP in Your State” map.
Key accomplishments included:
- Advancing research and monitoring that can be translated into practical tools, partnerships, and strategies that help people prepare for and adapt to ocean acidification impacts.
- Improved tracking of ocean and coastal acidification through observing, models, and forecasts to predict where acidification will affect ecosystems, fisheries, and communities.
- Learning more about what’s at risk for marine life and the people who depend on healthy ocean ecosystems.
- Increasing capacity to build resilience through partnerships, education and training programs, and workshops that bring people together and empower communities facing ocean and coastal acidification.
- Ocean acidification solutions research that assess the efficacy and safety of potential mitigating and adaptive approaches to ocean acidification.
