The new year begins with 2025’s “OA Day of Action” on 8 January. This day is selected to bring awareness to ocean acidification and the global average pH of 8.1. This is a measure of the acidity of seawater and the continued drop from 8.2 over the past 250 years indicates a 26% increase in acidity. This year brings more opportunities to address ocean acidification and its impacts to marine life, people and economies. Now an international event, we celebrate the work toward and identify opportunities for adaption and mitigation.
The OA Day of Action was first started by The Ocean Foundation in 2019 as part of their “Waves of Change” awareness campaign.
